Martial Arts Classes Return to West Boynton Rec Center This Fall

Families looking for an after-school activity that runs through the fall have a straightforward option a few minutes from home: Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation is running a Modern Bujutsu martial arts program at the West Boynton Park and Recreation Center, and registration is open now.

Classes are led by Master Alexis Cardona, a fourth-degree black belt. The county describes the curriculum as traditional martial arts built around discipline, respect, self-defense and self-control — the kind of program that tends to appeal to parents who want structure as much as exercise.

The session runs August 12 through October 14, 2026, meeting Mondays and Wednesdays. Kids ages 4 to 12 train from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., and the 13-and-up group follows from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Because the program is open to ages 4 and up with no upper limit, it is one of the rarer local offerings where a parent and a child can both sign up.

The fee is $75 per eight-week session, which covers 16 classes, with a $5 family discount for households registering more than one participant. Registration closes September 1 or whenever the class fills, and county recreation programs at this center have a habit of filling before the deadline.
