Two New Turf Fields Are Open at West Boynton Park
Palm Beach County cut the ribbon on multi-sport synthetic turf fields that let leagues play year-round instead of losing weeks to summer rain.
County officials and west Boynton residents cut the ribbon on two new multi-sport turf fields at West Boynton Park, adding capacity that local leagues have been short on for years.
The practical difference is drainage. Natural grass fields out here go out of service after heavy summer storms and need recovery time between seasons; synthetic turf can be back in play quickly, which means fewer cancelled practices in the rainy months and more games fit into the same calendar.
"This project reflects our continued commitment to providing high-quality, accessible recreational spaces for the community," said Jennifer Cirillo, director of Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation, noting the fields let the department expand programming and host more games and events.
The fields are marked for multiple sports, so soccer, football and lacrosse groups share the space. Field availability and permitting run through Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation — leagues book blocks in advance, and open drop-in time depends on the permit schedule, so check before you load up the car.
